Qualification
AQA - Applied A Level
The course consists of 6 compulsory and 6 optional units of work. In addition students are taught in core skills (Maths, English and I.C.T.)
Compulsory Units
- Business at work
- The Competitive Business Environment
- Marketing
- Human Resources
- Finance
- Business Planning
Optional Units include:
- Business and the EU.
- Developing Teams
- Business Communication Systems
- Market Research
- Introduction to Management
- Managing Production
Each unit has an assignment. The assignment is graded A, C or E.
Units 2 and 5 are assessed externally through an examination.
Course Length
Two years
Entry Requirements
A minimum of a D Pass in Maths and English.
Course Delivery
The emphasis of the course is 'collaboration'. Staff teach through a combination of lectures, tutorials, research, case studies and outside speakers. There is a big emphasis, however, on students to plan and carry out independent research on a given assignment.
Assessment Method
Students wishing to take Applied A Level for one year must study the 5 Compulsory Units and one Optional Unit.
Progression from the course
Students can use their Applied A Level in a variety of ways:
a) to help gain employment
b) to gain entry to Degree courses with equivalent points score to A-level.
