During the course of KS3, pupils study technology for 2 periods each week in mixed ability technology groups, one period involves technology through the two materials of Food and Textiles.
Over the course of each year in Food and Textiles students are taught by one member of staff and study each material area for 20 weeks. Lessons include a variety of types of study including individual, paired and group work.
Year 7 lessons involve a consideration of health and safety together with the development of new skills using the relevant equipment.
Year 8 involves the study and application of healthy eating guidelines as well as the construction and decoration of a textile garment.
Year 9 involves the design and construction of a personal textile container together with the completion of three 'design and make' Food assignments on bread, cakes and cook-chill foods.
Theory lessons give background detail for practical sessions and students are assessed in both their practical techniques and their written work.
