Qualification

GCSE (OCR)

Candidates will be expected to cover a course in Food Technology. The areas studied will be within the context of food products.

  • Identification of a need and the preparation of a design brief.
  • Research into design area.
  • Generating ideas.
  • Product development, planning and realisation.
  • Evaluation and testing of product.

Coursework will include one major assignment of 40 - 50 hours plus 2 end of course written papers at two levels - Foundation or Higher

 

Curriculum

Two hours lesson time per week.

Course Delivery

The course is concerned with the production of 'quality food products' and will include practical food production. Other methods of delivery are: class and group discussions/visiting speakers/design and make assignments/focused practical tasks/food tasting and testing/experimental work/surveys/use of IT.

Assessment Method

Coursework 60% (teacher based)
Written Papers 40% (board assessed)

Coursework : Complete one assignment involving written work, practical work, testing of ideas, surveys and IT during the second year of the course.
