Edexcel - AS level
The General Studies course offers the student the opportunity to acquire knowledge and understanding of the various physical, social, political, cultural and technological factors affecting society.
The course encourages students to use skills such as analysis and evaluation and to make informed judgments. It develops effective inter-personal skills and broadens the viewpoint of students following any combination of post-16 courses.

Course Delivery
The course is taught on a modular basis by a team of teachers using a variety of approaches. It is expected that students read newspapers and watch quality television programmes to keep up with current affairs and thinking.
An essay will be set at the end of each module to allow the students the opportunity to air their knowledge and opinions on relevant, current issues.
Assessment Method
The course is assessed by written external examination in June.
The AS is a stand alone qualification but can also be used to form 50% of the assessment weighting of the full Advanced level.
Progression from the course
This subject carries the weighting of A level points and can be used to help gain university entry on a variety of courses.
This course could lead to a one year intensive A level in General Studies in Year 13. It also develops skills and knowledge necessary for success in the workplace.
