This course covers the following areas within Health & Social Care:

Health, Social Care & Early Years Provision

  • The needs of different people and services set up to meet those needs
  • Methods of obtaining care services and barriers to care which may exist
  • Work roles within care services and the skills and qualities required of care workers

Promoting Health & Well-being

  • Understanding health and well-being
  • Risks to health
  • Health promotion work

Understanding Personal Development & Relationships

  • A study of the way in which humans grow and develop
  • Factors which affect growth and development

 

Curriculum

4 hours per week

Course Delivery

This new course is designed to follow a more vocational emphasis. Students will be encouraged to become independent workers taking responsibility, with guidance, for the completion of the necessary coursework. The course will involve group discussions, visiting speakers, investigations and off-site visits. It will also involve the use of IT in research and presentation of material.

Assessment Method

This is a double award GCSE with grades from A* - G. Three units of work are covered, each unit of equal importance and weighting.

Two of the units involve the completion of coursework assignments - 66%

One unit is tested externally and is assessed by the examination board - 34%
