Qualification

AQA - Intermediate Level (equivalent to 4 GCSE's grade C)

The course comprises six units, four compulsory units plus an additional two optional units.

The compulsory units cover:-

  • Health, Social Care and early years
  • Promoting health and well-being
  • Understanding personal development
  • Nutrition and food hygiene

One year

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications, but an interest in a caring career and an ability to work as a member of a team would be an advantage.

Course Delivery

Class project and discussion work, visits, speakers, Food Technology and laboratory work. Use of ICT facilities.

Work placements with young children and the elderly or disabled.

Assessment Method

Assessment for each unit is either through portfolio (coursework) or external assessment completed at the end of each unit.

The examination board will specify the externally assessed units.

 

Progression from the course

This qualification offers you:

  • Progression into Further Education
    e.g. Advanced Level AVCE or the Nursery Nurse Diploma or a pathway into employment.
