Key Stage 4

Qualification

ICT Diploma

Diplomas are new qualifications introduced to recognise achievement at ages 14-19. They provide an exciting opportunity for students to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and understanding in applied, sector-related learning contexts.

Diploma Development Partnerships, led by Sector Skills Councils and including representation from QCA, DfES, HE and provider groups, have been given responsibility for developing diploma content which will then be shaped into qualifications by awarding bodies.

The Diplomas aims to:

  • Open up choices for young people
  • Offer different ways of learning and alternative routes into higher education or employment
Provide nationally recognised, industry approved qualifications that combine general and applied learning

Curriculum

Classwork - 10 hours per week

Course Delivery

The course is delivered over two days. During these two days students will be taught a number of units.

The Diploma has three components:

  • Principal learning - students develop knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes relevant to one or more sectors and are given opportunities to apply these to work roles or situations and within realistic contexts
  • Additional/specialist learning - students choose from a range of approved qualifications and units, in some cases following employer endorsed pathways
  • Generic learning - students develop and apply the skills and knowledge necessary for learning, employment and personal development.

Assessment Method

A Level 2 Diploma will be at the same level as GCSEs grades A* to C. On completion of the course students will be awarded the equivalent of 7 GCSE's.

Each unit of work will be externally assessed. Students will complete project work which will be in the form of report, presentation or classroom controlled assessment.
