CORE ICT
The world is becoming increasingly dominated by the use of Information and Communication Technology systems, which influence every aspect of our lives. This course aims in particular to prepare students for the world of work. Today's students need to be equipped with knowledge and skills to enable them to participate in a technological society. They need technological and information handling skills that include the ability to gather, process, and manipulate data. These skills are now as essential as those of traditional numeracy and literacy.

On completion of the course students will be awarded a half GCSE in ICT. This course is completed in Year 10 and is made up of one examination and one ICT coursework project.
Curriculum
Classwork - 1 hour per week
Course Delivery
This course will be delivered through a combination of practical work using the computers and theory work.
In addition to allowing time to complete the coursework the practical time will be given over to developing the skills needed to use ICT effectively.
The theory work will allow students to learn about who uses ICT, how they use ICT, what they use ICT for and some of the legal implications resulting from the growth of ICT in society.
Assessment Method
Students will complete this course in Year 10 and will complete an examination at the end of Year 10. This is a multiple choice examination which is worth 40% of their final mark.
In addition to their examination students will also complete a coursework project which is based on a ‘Real Life' scenario. This element is worth 60% of the student's final mark and will be completed in class. Section of this project will be completed as homework.
