Qualification

AQA - GNVQ Information Technology Intermediate
(equivalent to 4 GCSE grades A-C) 'Provisional'

6 modules of work. 3 of which are compulsory. In addition to the 6 modules students receive teaching on the core skills (Maths, English and I.C.T.)

Compulsory Units

  • Presenting Information
  • Handling Information
  • Hardware and Software

Optional Units include

  • Graphics and Desktop Publishing
  • Numerical Modelling using spreadsheets
  • Impact of ICT on society

 

Course Length

One or two years depending on the aptitude and progress of the student.

Entry Requirements

Students must be prepared to work hard and want to achieve success.

Students will receive help and guidance on their suitability for the course.

Course Delivery

The emphasis of the course is to develop a range of practical I.C.T. skills and knowledge / understanding of I.C.T. systems.

Staff teach through a combination of lectures, tutorials, case studies and research tasks.

Assessment Method

The assessment process is also 'collaborative'. Once a student has covered the necessary work they will sit down with staff and assess the quality of work. Staff and students may then plan areas of the work which need to be improved or new areas to move into.

Once a unit of work has been finalised, students will sit a short test.

Students receive certificates for each unit completed. When all are finished the full award is given.

 

Progression from the course

Students can use their GNVQ Intermediate in a variety of ways:

  • to help gain employment
  • to progress onto a GNVQ Information Technology course (equivalent to 2 A levels)
  • to gain entry to other courses at school or Further Education.
