History Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3 pupils study a range of topics from the Romans through to 20th Century World History. Pupils are encouraged to explore information and ideas by studying and evaluating sources of evidence. The curriculum is supported by field trips, e.g. to Newcastle Keep and, in Year 9, to Killingworth where they solve the Mystery Of The Missing The Missing Wagonway.

Thinking Skills is integral part of teaching in the History Department and was heavily involved in the North East School Based Research Consortium which led the way in this methodology.

The department is actively involved in the local community. Pupils are given the opportunity to participate in intergenerational activities in which older and younger people learn alongside each other in the classroom. These activities have many benefits for both
