The course leads to a qualification which is of highly practical benefit to pupils seeking immediate job opportunities as well as those wishing to continue their studies. Pupils will continue to practise the skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing through themes which are designed to be at a level of interest and maturity suited to their age, such as:
- Theme 1 : My World, for example, deals with issues from a description of
the house and the family to discussion of global warming - Theme 2 : Holiday Time and Travel ranges from personal accounts of
holiday experiences to the effect of tourism on the environment - Theme 3 : Work and Lifestyle ranges from descriptions of part-time jobs to
accounts of their own local work experience placements
organised by the school - Theme 4 : The Young Person in Society deals with issues of direct concern
to young people ranging from acne to drug abuse
Curriculum
Two/three hours lesson time per week.
Course Delivery
Pupils will continue to work in class sets and learning activities will follow a pattern already familiar to pupils; group work and pair work as well as individual class and homework assignments. As always they will be encouraged to make their language learning experience active and enjoyable by taking part and speaking as much Spanish as possible.
Assessment Method
The three skills, Listening, Speaking and Reading are examined at the end of the two year course. There are two different levels of entry:
Foundation (for grades C - G) or Higher (for grades A* - D)
The writing element of the course consists of three coursework assignments instead of a written examination at the end of two years.
Each skill accounts for 25% of the total mark.
