The four language skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing are further developed through the study of a wide range of themes relating to contemporary life in Spain.

Two topics are studied in greater depth as part of a Civilisation, Literature and Culture study.

Course Length

Advanced Subsidiary One year. Advanced GCE Two years

Entry Requirements

A higher grade pass in the subject at GCSE would normally be expected.

Course Delivery

You will be encouraged to develop the four language skills. You will be given opportunities to speak in group, pairs and individually with access to native speakers where possible.

You will have access at all times to cassette, video tapes and satellite television to improve your listening skills.

You will be given support to consolidate and extend your knowledge of grammar to help you meet the requirements of communication at A-level.
There is a wide range of books and up to date reading materials for you to increase your understanding of the written language.

A personal dictionary and a Walkman are recommended items of equipment.

Progression from the course

 You can take a traditional language course at a university or a degree combining language modules with subjects such as Business, Law, Science, European Studies or Tourism. Competence in a foreign language is an asset in the workplace.

As well as export links, major British firms have partnerships with European countries and welcome graduates with language skills.
