Qualification
OCR - GCE 'AS' and 'A' level
Year One
- Three hours theory covering Applied Anatomy and Physiology, Acquiring and Teaching Movement, Comtemporary Studies in PE and Sport.
- One hour practical including observation and analysis of techniques in an Individual Sport and a Game.
Year Two
- Three hours theory covering Historical Studies, Psychology of Sports Performance, Exercise Physiology and Synoptic Studies.
- One hour practical including effective performance in an Individual Sport and a Game and an understanding of the two chosen activities.

'AS' level Normally one year,'A' level 2 years
Entry Requirements
It is not necessary to have studied this subject at GCSE. It is preferable, but not essential, that students have a GCSE pass in Science and English. They must also have a good level of ability in two sports.
Course Delivery
The expertise of several staff will be used. In the practical sessions video cameras will be used to help observation and analysis
You will be given support to consolidate and extend your knowledge of grammar to help you meet the requirements of communication at A-level.
There is a wide range of books and up to date reading materials for you to increase your understanding of the written language.
A personal dictionary and a Walkman are recommended items of equipment.
Assessment Method
Year One - Two external papers, plus an internal assessment of practical work.
Year Two - Two external papers, plus an internal assessment of practical work.
- 70% Theory (exam)
- 30% Practical and Portfolio
Progression from the course
The obvious route would be to a degree course in Physical Education, Sports Science, Leisure and Tourism.
It may also be useful as an entry for Physiotherapy, P.T. Instructor in the forces, Sports Development Officer, Fitness/Aerobics Instructor.
